Mabel 1997-2005

Regular visitors to the Gladwyn will be very sorry to hear that our dog, Mabel, passed peacefully away on the morning of February 8th. She was diagnosed with a tumour which the vet told us was inoperable. She spent her final days at home in the company of friends enjoying a diet of sausages, liver, kidneys and kit kats.
We miss her very much and miss her barking everytime someone walks past the front door. In particular, our guests will miss her aggressive barking (accompanied by fierce tail wagging) whenever the bell rings. She will also be missed in the breakfast room where she was often to be found trying to beg a sausage off our unsuspecting guests.

What is Dying?
A ships sails and I stand
Watching till she fades on
The horizon and someone at my
Side says, "she is gone." Gone where?
Gone from my sight, that is all;
She is just as large as when I
Saw her. The diminished size,
And the total loss of sight is in me,
Not in her, and just at the moment
When someone at my side says,
"She is gone," There are others who
are watching her coming, and
other voices take up a glad shout,
"There she comes!" and that is dying.
